Egypt: Septuplets' mother hopes to hold them soon (AP)

With a deficiency in omega-3's that are reaching epidemic proportions in the Western world, health natural branch chain amino acids people are educating themselves about what foods contain omega-3 so they can include more of these essential fats into their diet.

There are many foods one can obtain omega-3's from. We will list many of them here, but it's important to understand that the best sources of omega-3 fats are the ones in which your body doesn't need to convert them.

Foods that contain omega-3's include:

  • fatty fish: salmon; tuna; sardines; trout; mackerel; herring; hoki.
  • nuts and seeds, especially: methylsulfonylmethane msm macadamia nuts, brazil nuts, hickory nuts; almonds.
  • other seafood: shrimps; lobster; crabs (not as high as fatty fish)
  • non-meat sources bulk bcaa as: spinach; spirulina; wheat germ; peanuts; olive oil
  • meat sources such as: lamb, beef, pork (especially grass-fed sources)

Some other foods, such as flaxseed, are often touted as among the best sources of omega-3 fats. For vegetarians, this may be true. But for the rest of us, it's not.

The problem is that omega-3's found in the vegetable world, such as flaxseed, do not come in the form of DHA and EPA, which is what our body utilizes. In these sources, the omega-3 exists as ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) and the human body needs to convert the ALA to DHA to EPA for use.

The problem is that the conversion from ALA to DHA and EPA doesn't always take place smoothly. In fact, for people in less than optimal health, such as the elderly, this conversion can be rather poor.

As such, the best sources of omega-3 fats, in our opinion, are sources that provide DHA and EPA directly....and inarguably the best source for these is fatty fish.

The only problem with fatty fish is the contamination that can build up in the flesh. This is a problem with pollution in the world's oceans and waterways.

Sadly, fatty fish, the most naturally healthy food in the world and the best source of omega-3 fatty acids can be unhealthy if too much is consumed.
